Happy 83rd day of school (I think that's the day...). I hope you all had a great extended weekend. We just started NWEA testing today. We will be continuing our test tomorrow with math. The students overall did really great did in reading and showed tremendous growth. I really tried to emphasize for the students to take breaks and pace themselves. You will receive detailed information about your child's individual scores by the end of this week or next.
Sight words We are on list 15. You can find the powerpoint to them here. Students will receive a new sight words handout tomorrow on a yellow sheet of paper. The sight word hand out that was given out today had a typo in it. A word was listed as "amy" when it should be listed as "army." The new yellow sheet will have the corrected words. Students will be tested on Friday, January 25th. Talent Show Today was the talent show auditions. The actual talent show will be on Thursday, January 31st at 6:00pm. Spelling Words This week's spelling words will be a continuation of last week's sight words. The results of this past week's spelling test on contractions showed that the students as a whole do not have a firm understanding contractions (where exactly an apostrophe goes and what it does). We looked into contractions and apostrophe's deeper in a lesson today and will be practicing throughout the week. I am going to put in last week's spelling test scores and take this week's as a "retake." The higher score will be taken into your child's writing grade. Important Upcoming Dates January 31st – Quarter 2 Ends/Talent Show 6pm February 1st – No School (Teacher Institute Day) February 8th – Report Card Distribution Day/LPCG Parent Child Dance (5:30p-7:30p) February 18th – No School (President’s Day) Have a great rest of your week, Ms. Chin Thank you all for your kind words and well wishes. Reading log As a school, we participate in the Six Flags Read to Succeed.
