I hope that you all had a wonderful Winter Break! The following are the spelling words for the week: Church, Burn, Birth, Shirt, Winter, Germ, Teacher, First, Nurse, Burger. Please note that on the spelling sheet that was given out today to students, there was a typo. Instead of the intended “germ,” I accidentally put “gern.”Students will be tested on Friday, January 11th. We are on List 13 for sight words and will also be tested on Friday, January 11th. The words this week are: sense, string, blow, famous, value, wings, movement, pole, exciting, branches, thick, blood, lie, spot, bell, fun, loud, consider, suggested, thin.
Students in grades 1 through 8 qualify to participate in the school spelling bee. Two representatives from each grade will be chosen through the classroom spelling bee on Wednesday. The two classroom representatives will compete in the school-wide spelling bee. One winner from the school-wide spelling bee will go on to compete against the City Spelling Bee competition. Our classroom spelling bee will be on Wednesday, January 9th and the school-wide spelling bee will be on Friday, January 11th at 12:30. Parents of the 2 first grade representatives are invited to come and watch the competition in the auditorium.
Next week, Mr. McCracken will be starting sexual health education classes. The topics for first grade are 1) respecting individuals, 2) families, 3) families change, and 4) bullying. A handout sheet was distributed today. Please review it for more details about the 1st grade sexual health education curriculum. On the bottom of the sheet is also an "opt-out" portion that can be filled out and returned if you choose to opt your child out of the health classes. Please contact Mr. McCracken if you have any questions (email@example.com).
