Good afternoon families,
We're in another crazy week of 1st grade. Yesterday's field trip was so much fun! Students really enjoyed exploring and learning more about the solar system through the short film and different exhibits. As the weather is getting nicer, please note that students will be spending recess outdoors unless there is precipitation. Please make sure that your child is dressed to be outside.
Students were sent home with a bright pink sheet of their pre-test for the remaining 2 lists. Students either had a white sheet attached that said that they have received a 20/20 on both lists and will have no more sight words to complete or they had a white sheet where they will be tested again on March 27th. Please note if your child is done with their sight words or are going to be tested on list 19 and/or list 20.
Peak into our Classroom
This week we are cranking it into high gear for our informational writing. We are done with our research portion. We have taken all of our facts that we've found and categorized them into different topics/main ideas. We are now taking each set of main ideas and the supporting details into our first drafts of our informational writing. In reading (RI.2.6, RI.2.8) we will be reading nonfictional books and identifying the main purpose of the text-- determining the details that support that claim in the informational text (example: the purpose of the reading is for readers to understand that snakes are not actually a scary animal-- but rather very cool in its ways to protect itself-- by the way/how the author writes presents the facts). In math we will be looking to at more line plots, picture graphs, and bar graphs where we will answer general questions about them, but also draw conclusions about the information presented. Students will be tested on this skill on Friday, March 22nd. Study guides will be given tomorrow to help study. Spelling words are all compound words. Our words this week are: strawberry, birthday, airplane, underwater, waterfall, flashlight, backpack, rainbow, ladybug, classroom.
